Description: The Freshman Mentor Program (FMP) is a program at Big Foot throughout the first semester during the intervention period in which incoming 9th graders work in groups with their 11th and 12th grade mentors as well as a teacher mentor. Activities and bonding experiences will take place for thirty minutes each day. FMP activities include: getting used to the high-school life, how to study, preparing for high-school exams, social experiences, and different extra-curricular activities and clubs to get involved with. The FMP program helps build student leaders in the 11th and 12th graders that are the mentors, as well as build the relationships of new 9th graders as they enter high school.
Membership: 11th and 12th graders are allowed to apply to become an FMP mentor. Applications are handed out in April and are usually due before spring break. There is a written portion to the application, teacher referrals and face to face interviews upon request.
