Congratulations To Carter Beckford for being selected as the 23-24 Silent Servant Award recipient. This award is given by the Peter R. Marsh foundation to students who are selfless, and independent, voluntary and beneficial to the citizens of the greater community outside their school (off-campus).
Carter was nominated by Mrs. Lawler. Below is what she wrote in the nomination for Carter.
"I feel very honored to present this year’s Silent Servant award to an incredibly deserving senior. He is someone who goes above and beyond to help those in need. He is kind and welcoming to everyone he meets and works to build relationships with people from all walks of life.
Carter Beckford is an active member of the Big Foot family. He has played multiple sports, been in the band, the bowling club, and I have had the privilege of working closely with him over the last four years as his student council advisor. As a member of Student Council, Carter is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure that events run smoothly. He never complains, just simply shows up! This year, he serves as the Public Relations Coordinator because he wants to promote school spirit and Chieftain Pride. He works to plan fun theme nights, and attends every extra curricular event that he can to cheer on the Chiefs. Carter is someone that is proud to be a Chief.
Carter is also someone who the Chiefs can be proud to call one of their own. In addition to his school spirit and enthusiasm within the school, Carter has spent the majority of his senior year, volunteering at Lakeland School in Elkhorn as a classroom intern. When other students were looking for easy or fun classes to take with their friends, Carter found a way to reach out and make a difference. Carter spends four hours a day working with students who have the most severe special needs in a variety of settings and capacities. Carter eventually wants to be a special education teacher so that he can make a positive difference in the lives of kids who need the most support and encouragement. In fact, a few weeks ago when Lakeland had a day off of school, Carter could have easily gone home for the afternoon and taken a day off; however, what Carter did instead was to come to my room and ask if there was anything he could do to help. He sat with a student for 45 minutes and helped him to complete his English homework. Where most kids would have seized the opportunity for an afternoon at home, Carter instead decided his time would be better spent helping others. This one act sums up so much about Carter and who he is. He has a passion for helping others find their true potential. I have no doubt that Carter will one day make a truly incredible difference in the lives of children.
Carter is truly one of a kind. He is dependable and trustworthy. He works hard to make Big Foot and his community a better place in every way that he knows how. We are very lucky to have him!"
